Boys Basketball Season Cut Short by Last-Second Rally

The 6-14 Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team played at Dike-New Hartford High School last Monday night against the 11-11 Wolverines. Both teams were looking to advance in the 2A District 12 tournament for a shot at Aplington-Parkersburg.

Carson Nesheim was consistent in the 1st half and led the Cowboys with 10 points. The Wolverines began burying 3-pointers in the 2nd quarter and led 27-23 at halftime.

There were several lead changes in the 3rd quarter. Chaz Lane’s aggressive drives to the rim helped the Cowboys take a 35-32 advantage into the final period.

The Wolverines switched gears again in the 4th, raining down perimeter shots and pounding the ball inside to regain a 6-point lead. Nesheim made it a one-possession game with a triple of his own, and Chaz Lane’s layup tied the game at 46 with 15 seconds left on the clock.

After a timeout, Colin Meester of Dike-New Hartford spoiled the CGD comeback by sinking a layup as time expired.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows ended their season with a 48-46 loss to the Wolverines.

Lane had a game high 17 points to go along with 6 boards. Nesheim hit three 3-pointers and scored 15. The senior also had 3 steals. JD Morrical finished his freshman campaign with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Huxley Lingenfelter, also in ninth grade, dropped in 4 points and snagged 5 rebounds. Caden Hankins and Bryce Lindaman each had 2 points for CGD.
