An old-fashioned rebound isn’t the most glamorous statistic in the game of basketball. Pretty passes and flashy layups can often overshadow the arduous task of crashing the boards, and some players shy away from contact in the paint.
Elliot Ennis is not one of those players.
“You have to really have the desire to reach higher and put in 110% effort,” said the 6’1” Ennis.
The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows center has been earning a living in the post for three seasons now, and other coaches in the North Central Conference have begun to take notice. In her junior campaign, Ennis reached higher than almost everyone else in the conference, securing the second most rebounds in the entire NCC.
That nose for the ball helped Ennis land a well-deserved spot on the All-Conference squad.
“I didn’t make it last year. This year I had that goal at the beginning of the season that I wanted to get there,” she said after being named to the 2nd Team.
Although Ennis led the Cowgirls in scoring, picked up her 500th career rebound in early February, and had more blocked shots than any other player in the conference, she says that her favorite moments came from “just being with the team in the locker room.”
After all, it is a team game.
In a year filled with personal milestones, Ennis thanked the Cowgirl supporters for their part in her achievements.
“The community wants what’s best for you and wants you to succeed,” she remarked with a grin.
The good news for the community is that Elliot Ennis is already prepared to run it back and rack up even more rebounds for the Cowgirls next season.
