The latest Clarion City Council meeting kicked off right at 5:00 P.M. Mayor Heiden was welcomed with a full roster of council members: Dave Flurer, Dan Hennigar, Shayne Hennigar, Nick McOllough, and Mike Ennis. The City Administrator Clint Middleton, City Attorney Chizek, and Director of Public Works Jon DeVries were present as well.
The council moved through the consent agenda, approving various items with a single motion. The approvals included the previous meeting minutes, permits, and financial reports. Building permits for Torsell for an addition and a fence for Wycoff received the council's approval.
Ashley Bosch, who is running for the Wright County Board of Supervisors, introduced herself to the council.
Bosch, a stay-at-home mom, is married to Dillion Bosch who is employed by the Wright County Secondary Roads. Bosch had a previous seat on the Rowan City Council. Bosch shared that she felt a Supervisor should remain active in city matters for the county they represent. That is why she made it a priority to introduce herself to the council. Bosch feels it is important to bring back home healthcare and that taxpayer money is to be used responsibly.
Clint Middleton provided a brief update on the Clarion airport project. He shared of an ongoing challenge with the project, including construction delays and issues with the fuel system operation.
Dan Hennigar shared his opinion that the city needs to push for fines since the project is still incomplete. “[The builders are] not holding up their end of the deal, [The project is] 9 months past completion date,” he stated at the meeting. Middleton shared the possibility of seeking a 3rd party to complete the Airport Project.
Reports from various council committees followed. Shayne Hennigar shared his concern about low-hanging trees and the damage they brought to the city firetruck during a recent outing. The mention of the firetruck brought about another concern regarding fire damage to a house on South 1st St.
Mike Ennis is concerned about safety if the house is left in town. A citizen then spoke up, sharing her thoughts that the house appeared to be occupied. It was agreed that the City should push to address the issue.
The conversation moved onto a reminder from Dan Hennigar to address the lack of water lines at Gazebo Park before “Festival” and the now annual Cultural Festival. There was no update regarding roads, the fire department, or the police department. The next Clarion City Council meeting will be held April 2nd at 5:00 P.M.
