“Ready, Set, Library!”

April 10, 2024 (Wright County, Iowa) – National Library Week, running from April 7 to April 13, 2024, is a nationwide celebration of libraries and the people who keep them running smoothly. The theme for this year's National Library Week is "Ready, Set, Library," celebrating the role libraries play in our lives.

National Library Week traces its origins back to 1958 when concerns arose about declining reading habits. The American Library Association teamed up with the National Book Committee to promote reading and literacy. The first National Library Week, themed "Wake Up and Read!", aimed to encourage Americans to embrace reading as a part of their daily lives. Since then, it has grown into an annual celebration observed by various types of libraries across the nation.

Wright County is home to five libraries located in Clarion, Eagle Grove, Belmond, Dows, and Rowan.

The American Library Association (ALA) starts the week off by releasing its State of America's Libraries Report, which includes the Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2023.

Throughout the week, various programing celebrating National Library Week will take place at your local library. Whether you're gearing up for a career change, starting a business, or nurturing a family, the library is there to welcome you with open arms.
