Nesheim Strikes Out 15 In Cowboy Victory

After their season opener in Zearing, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball team traveled to Manson for a non-conference contest against the Manson-NW Webster Cougars. The Cowboys controlled the game from start to finish, winning 10-0 in six innings.

Senior ace Carson Nesheim started for the Cowboys and struck out five in the first two innings.

In the top of the 3rd, Landen Kakacek got on base with a single and stole second. Centerfielder Wyatt DeCoster’s well-placed bunt advanced Kakacek to third and Nesheim drew a walk to load the bases. Manson’s pitcher hit both Caden Hankins and Nick Sisson, scoring two runs.  Owen Sweeney and Brandon Stein drew bases loaded walks to increase the Cowboy lead to four.

Nesheim continued his dominance by striking out two in the next frame, and Stein caught a pop fly in deep left field to squash the Cougars’ hopes.

It was three up and three down for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in the top of the 4th, but Nesheim responded with three strikeouts to end the inning.

CGD would score five more runs in the 5th inning off a barrage of hits, Manson misplays, and a perfect bunt from sophomore Ethan Hasty.

Hasty finished with three hits. Stein and Kakacek contributed two hits apiece for the Cowboys. Nesheim allowed two hits in six innings of work. He struck out 15 batters and walked three.
