Last Thursday, the West Hancock Eagles were in Clarion for an evening of non-conference summer softball action. The two teams traded blows for seven innings, but the hometown Cowgirls would ultimately emerge victorious, winning 6-5 in dramatic fashion and securing their first win of the season.
With two outs and the bases loaded, pinch runner Madison Ingebritson stole home after a wild pitch from the Eagles, tying the game 5-5. Moments later, another errant throw from the rattled pitcher was mishandled by West Hancock’s catcher, and Blaire Askelsen crossed home plate standing up to give Clarion-Goldfield-Dows the walk off home win.
Tess Wibholm was the winning Cowgirl pitcher. She went the distance, walked only two, and fanned nine Eagle batters.
Centerfielder Paige Brooks hit two singles, stole two bases, and scored three runs for the Cowgirls. Nyla Wibholm added a pair of singles and an RBI, and first baseman Graclyn Bremmer hit two doubles with two RBIs. Kayla Hasty hit a single, and Askelsen went 2 for 3 with the winning run.
