The City of Clarion Takes Legal Action Over Abandoned Property

In response to growing concerns over property neglect and public safety, the City of Clarion has filed a petition with the Iowa District Court for Wright County regarding the property located at 404 1st Street SW in Clarion.

The City of Clarion states that the property in question meets the standard of abandonment as defined by law. According to legal documents filed by the city attorney Zach Chizek, the property is vacant after an obvious fire and has since been deteriorating. This brings about safety concerns that several Clarion residents have brought to the attention of the City Council.

The city’s petition seeks a court judgment that would declare the property abandoned and grant title to the entire property to the City of Clarion. This would allow the city to care for the property with public safety in mind.

The outcome of the court’s decision may establish a precedent regarding how the City of Clarion will deal with similar neglected properties in the future.
