Swenson and Greenfield Bring Home All-Conference Honors

Schools from the Top of Iowa Conference met at NIACC last Thursday for their annual conference cross country meet, and two local runners brought home some hardware for Clarion-Goldfield-Dow/Belmond-Klemme.

The ladies, led by Lila Swenson, took 7th place with a score of 171.

Coach Daniel Murray complimented Swenson’s effort and resolve on the big stage.

“She got herself in good position by the mile, and then continued gaining a few places to 15th by the 2 mile and held that position for the third mile,” said Murray. “Going into the meet, I thought she would be around 28th place, but she exceeded those expectations.”

The boys team finished 12th with a total of 286 and were led by another All-Conference performance from senior Christopher Greenfield.

“The conference is very competitive this year with Forest City, GHV, and Lake Mills ranked in the top 10 for 1A and 2A,” Coach Murray stated. “The goal that I had for Chris was to be in the top-30 to earn All-Conference Honors, and he met that goal!”
