Wrestlers Demolish Competition at Glen Brand Dual

On Saturday, the #4 (2A) Cowboy wrestling team hosted and defeated five other schools at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. The tournament, named in honor of Clarion native and Olympic champion Glen Brand, began at 10 a.m. and featured three varsity mats.

The Cowboys swiftly defeated West Marshall 43-26 in their first dual, before going on to win  49-29 over Decorah. Next, they dismantled AP-GC (68-12) and outlasted Hampton-Dumont-CAL (40-32). Finally, C-G-D knocked off Earlham 57-19.

Cowboy senior Caleb Seaba (157) went 2-1 on the day with a win by technical fall and a pin. The win by fall over Decorah’s Steven Munoz was Seaba’s 100th career win. Read more about Seaba’s journey to 100 wins in an upcoming edition of the Monitor. 

Linden Phetxoumphone pinned three opponents and beat Gavin Knutson of Decorah by technical fall at 120. Adrian Phetxoumphone (132), Colin Sesker (144), and Charlie Campbell (175/190) all finished the day 5-0.

Ryan Hartwig (132) and Paxton Redenius (113) both went 4-0. JT Kelso (285) recorded two pins, a decision, and two wins by forfeit.
