Donald Denton Reed, the son of Warren D. and Ruth P. (Hanson) Reed, was born on February 9, 1947, in Charles City, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Clarion – graduating from Clarion High School in 1965 and ICCC – Elevator and Farm Supply Program in 1971.
Don served in the United States Marine Corps from January 1968 to December 1969 during the Vietnam War.
On October 9, 1971, Don was united in marriage with Janice Carter at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor.
Don worked many years in the agricultural field. Don retired from the USPS in 2009 after 20 years as a rural mail carrier.
Don never met a stranger. He became a friend to everyone he met. His greatest passion was his family – his grandsons being the sparkle in his eyes.
Don passed away at home after a courageous twelve-year battle with cancer on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 77 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws John and Lucille Carter and brother, Brian Reed.
Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jan Reed; sons, Kyle Reed (Mandy) of Ankeny and Kirk Reed of Fort Dodge; grandsons, Tyson Carter and Langdon Tate Reed; brothers, Dennis Reed (Denise), Kevin Reed (Julie) and Brent Reed; sisters, Melia Asche (Steve), Brenda Reed (Jim Fisher) and Lori Kloberdanz (Jerry); brother-in-law, Gary Carter (Sue); sister-in-law, Carolyn Matteson (Jon); step mother, Millie Reed; several nieces and nephews; special lifelong friends, Steve and Beth Core of Frost, MN and his faithful, furry companion, Libby Lou.
Visitation is Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove- the service will be livestreamed on the Samuel Lutheran Church Eagle Grove, Iowa Facebook page. Burial with Military Honors will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery in Thor.
