On January 20, girls wrestling teams and fans from Humboldt, Webster City/Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, and Northwood-Kensett braved frigid temperatures for a varsity quad at Eagle Grove Elementary.
Freshman Marlee Thompson won by forfeit in WC/C-G-D’s dual with Northwood-Kensett and the Lynx defeated the Vikings 36-12.
Against Humboldt, WC/C-G-D would face a tougher challenge. Thompson was in control for the entirety of her 115 match and earned a 17-0 technical fall win over Elsie Stattelman. However, the Lynx had seven open weight classes and fell 66-11 at the hands of a stacked Humboldt squad.
Thompson was bumped up a weight class in the dual against shorthanded Eagle Grove. She faced two-time state qualifier Jaymie Anderson at 120-lbs. and lost via fall in 1:25.
As a team, the Lynx outlasted the Eagles and won by a final of 24-18.
