On Saturday morning, the eight schools of the North Central Conference met in Algona for their annual conference wrestling tournament.
Top ranked Algona would repeat as team champions with 238.5 points. #13 (2A) Hampton-Dumont/CAL came in second with 183, just two points ahead of #4 (2A) Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. #6 (2A) Humboldt placed 4th with a final score of 172.
The Cowboys, wrestling without Linden Phetxoumphone (illness), still brought home three individual titles and a runner-up.
Adrian Phetxoumphone placed 1st at 126-lbs. after winning a 4-0 decision against Algona’s Isaac Wilson. Colin Sesker won gold at 144 after coming out on top of an 11-9 decision over Barrett Morgan of Algona.
At 285, JT Kelso would also face an Algona wrestler in his 1st place match. He won a 7-2 decision over Jack Limbaugh for the conference title.
Charlie Campbell (190) fought his way to the finals, but had to settle for 2nd after losing a 10-0 major decision to the undefeated Christian Dunning of Clear Lake.
Paxton Redenius (3rd place – 113), Angel Cortez (3rd place – 120), Caleb Seaba (3rd place – 157), and Ryland Morgan (4th place – 165) also represented the Cowboys on the podium.
