Galyn Richard Cross

Galyn Richard Cross, 77, of Osceola, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born in Hampton, IA, on January 29, 1948, to L. Harold and Marjorie (Norris) Cross, Galyn grew up on a farm northeast of Dows with his three brothers:     Michael, Neil, and Douglas. Together, they shared countless memories of hard work, mischief, and laughter that would last a lifetime.
A 1966 graduate of Dows Community High School, Galyn attended Iowa State University briefly before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served in the 725th Maintenance Battalion in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971. In his day, Galyn was an avid card player, always ready for a game with family or friends, and he never missed an opportunity to deal out some competition-and plenty of laughs.
In June of 1975, Galyn married Barbara Crafton, and together they raised two children: Jennifer Lynne and Adam Jon. Galyn worked as a machinist and a crop farmer throughout his life. In recent years, he was never at a loss for words-if you ever had the pleasure of hearing one of his stories, you knew you were in for a long and entertaining ride, complete with plenty of detours!
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Steve Scott of Osceola; his son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Jennifer Cross of Williams; step-grandchildren Amanda  (Anthony) Schrad, Jessica Scott, and Tatum Henrichs; brother Mike (Evelyn) of Hampton; brother Doug (Rebecca) of Geneseo, IL; sister-in-law Cheryl of Urbandale; as well as several nieces, nephews, and step-great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
Galyn was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Neil.
A private family scattering ceremony will take place at a later date in a location that was meaningful to Galyn. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dows Community Library, P.O. Box 427, or the Dows Legion Post 523, 120 E Ellsworth, Dows, IA 50071.
