On May 15th, the Cowgirl track and field team had their Class 2A State Qualifying Meet in Grundy Center. MaKayla Beisel was an automatic qualifier in the high jump (5’ 3”), 100-meter hurdles (15.71), and 400-meter hurdles (1:05.98) after runner-up finishes in all three events. This will be the standout senior’s third time competing in the high jump at state. As a sophomore, her jump of 5’2” tied for 7th overall at Drake Stadium. Beisel is now a three-time qualifier in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles.
The 4×800 team of Harley Charlson, Yaquelin Babadilla, Kennedy Hoesing, and Johanna Perez clocked in at 12:16.17 for 7th overall.
Rosa Matul, Daphne Tijull, Hoesing, and Charlson made up a distance medley team that placed 7th in a time of 5:07.63, and C-G-D’s shuttle hurdle crew of Aleena Schaffer, Ella Engstrom, Tijull, and Audrey Egland ran a 1:21.25 for 7th.
Beisel is set to race in the 100-meter hurdle prelims at 10:20 a.m. on Friday at Drake Stadium. Her first high jump is scheduled for Friday at 11:30 a.m., and the 2A 400-meter hurdle final is set to begin around noon of the same day.
