Last week, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls golf team closed out their season with two important area tournaments.

On Monday morning, the girls played eighteen strong holes at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge for the North Central Conference Tournament.  Clear Lake would win their fifth-straight conference title with a score of 380, while Algona finished ten strokes shy of gold with 390.  The Cowgirls were a distant third with 428, followed by Humboldt’s 440 and Webster City’s 447.

Maddie Askvig earned All-Conference honors after a fifth place performance in Fort Dodge.  The senior shot a 96 for CGD’s lowest score of the day.  Jordyce Duncalf and junior Claire Kirstein finished neck and neck with scores of 110, and Blaire Askelsen came in 23rd with a 112.  Sophomore Quinn Brooks shot a 146 and finished 42nd overall.

On Friday morning, Clarmond Country Club was the host course for a Class 2A Sectional Tournament against Manson-NW Webster, Iowa Falls-Alden, Southeast Valley, Pocahontas Area, Eagle Grove, East Sac County, and Grundy Center.  The Cowgirls were unable to advance further in postseason play, but they wrapped up their season with a team score of 465 and a sixth place showing through eighteen holes.

Grundy Center (371), East Sac County (408), and Eagle Grove (418) took gold, silver and bronze, and four Grundy Center golfers finished in the individual Top-5.  Askelsen scored 110 and finished 20th, and Kirstein shot a 114 for 26th. Askvig and Duncalf placed 29th and 30th with scores of 120 and 121, respectively.
