On Saturday, March 29th, The Red Shed Event Center in Clarion will once again be filled with Prom-goers, dancing the night away. However, it won’t be your traditional high school prom; it will be a “Mom Prom!”
Originally created in Canton, MI, in 2006 by Elizabeth Crapps, Mom Prom® is a “ladies-only night out” event for charity. Since its beginning, each year women have gathered across the country for a night of dancing while wearing their old Prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, or any other formal gown they like, all for a worthy cause. This year’s event will be the third of its kind for Wright County communities.
Open to all women aged 21 and over, each ticket costs $40. “With every ticket purchase, ladies will receive entry to this year’s Mom Prom, a complimentary drink ticket, one raffle ticket, hors d’oeuvres, a night of dancing and fun, and the opportunity to support a local cause,” said Nikki Conlon of Clarion, member of the Mom Prom Board. “Mom Proms were originally designed to function as fundraising events, and ours is no different. Each year, we donate all proceeds toward a local organization or cause. We’re currently accepting applications from organizations who would like to be this year’s recipient.”
Tickets can be purchased from Mom Prom Board Members as well as at these local retailers: in Clarion – Italics Boutique, Riveter Nutrition, Appearances Salon and Spa, Leah Jean Boutique & Salon, and Wright Community Connections; in Eagle Grove – Slay Nutrition; in Belmond – Sugarpie Bakery & Café and Studio 220 Tuxedo Rental and Sales & Bridal/Formal Gown Boutique.
Dave Stein, “The DjMan – Professional Sound and Lighting”, will once again be providing nonstop dance music for the event. Photo selfie booths will be available for women to take group pictures with their friends, and delicious hors d’oeuvres will be served. Raffle prizes will be awarded, consisting of items donated by local retailers and organizations. While each participant will receive one complimentary raffle ticket, additional raffle tickets can be purchased that night to increase the chances of winning. A cash bar will be available for additional drink purchases, and silent auction items will be up for bid throughout the evening.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event as well. If any individual or organization would like to sponsor this year’s event at any level, they can contact the Mom Prom Board via their Facebook page – “Mom Prom – Wright County” – or by emailing them at mompromwrightia@gmail.com.
In addition, if your organization would like to apply to be a recipient of this year’s proceeds, you can email the Mom Prom Board at mompromwrightia@gmail.com as well.
