CGD Grad Jason Miller Recognized for Outstanding Athletic Training Career

In a tribute to one of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School’s most accomplished graduates, a special plaque was presented to the parents of Jason Miller at a recent school board meeting.

The plaque, which will soon be displayed in one of the school’s gymnasiums, honors Miller’s impressive career as one of the top athletic trainers in professional sports.

Superintendent Joseph Nelson presented the plaque to Jason’s parents, Rob and Donna Miller, acknowledging their son’s achievements but also the humility that defines their family.

Nelson praised Miller’s journey from CGD student to becoming an important part of the Denver Nuggets’ staff, a team that claimed the 2023 NBA Championship.

“Jason is literally one of the best athletic trainers in the world,” Nelson shared during the meeting. “For a CGD grad to be working alongside the best basketball player in the world on the biggest stage, it’s truly remarkable.”

Miller, a 1990 CGD graduate, continued his education at the University of Iowa before earning a master’s degree from Auburn University. His career includes time as the head athletic trainer for Auburn’s men’s basketball program and, since 2014, a key role with the Denver Nuggets. He later became the Nuggets’ associate head athletic trainer in 2019.

During his career, Miller has worked closely with star athletes, including Nikola Jokic, affectionately known as “The Joker”. Jokic, widely regarded as one of the best basketball players in the world, trusts Miller so much he requested Miller’s presence during his Olympic journey with Serbia, according to Nelson.

Nelson also emphasized how inspiring Miller’s story is for CGD students interested in sports medicine or athletic training. Miller has gone as far as offering to mentor CGD students interested in pursuing similar careers, welcoming calls, video chats, and Zoom meetings to provide guidance.

“We want our students to see this plaque and know that they, too, can achieve incredible things if they work hard and follow their passions,” Nelson added. “Jason’s story is proof that greatness can start right here in our small-town school.”

Miller’s parents expressed gratitude for the recognition. The plaque, featuring Miller’s photo, will serve as a reminder for all students that great things happen in small-town gymnasiums.
