Wright County Women Prepare for a Night of Fun at “Mom Prom”

by Amanda Rink, Editor

For the women of Wright County, March 29 promises to be more than just a night out, it is a chance to connect, unwind, and make memories while giving back to their community.

The Red Shed will once again host the much-anticipated Mom Prom, an evening dedicated to giving local women a well-deserved break from their busy lives. With music by Dave Stein, “The DJ Man,” guests will have the chance to hit the dance floor, sip cocktails, and enjoy an evening full of fun, all for a meaningful cause.

Though the name “Mom Prom” suggests the event is just for mothers, the event is open to all women ages 21 and older. Event organizer Nikki Conlon said the goal is simple: to create a fun, welcoming space where women can relax, connect, and enjoy themselves.

“Aside from sporting events for our kids and other community gatherings, there aren’t many night-out options where women can just cut loose together,” Conlon explained. “Mom Prom gives them that chance — a night to make memories, maybe meet new friends, and just have fun.”

This year’s Mom Prom will benefit the Clarion Parks and Recreation Board, which aims to improve local parks. Attendees will receive a complimentary drink, a raffle ticket, appetizers, and access to photo booths and a cash bar. Raffle prizes, donated by local businesses, will be awarded throughout the evening, and additional raffle tickets can be purchased to boost the chance of winning. But for a lot of mom’s the event is more than just a fun night out.

“It is easy to let you as an individual person almost disappear into just being “mom.”, but since my boys have gotten older, I’m realizing that keeping ahold of who you are is important because when your kids get old enough to not need you every 3-5 minutes, you will be left to figure out who you are all over again,” Hodgell said.

Hodgell, a mother of two sons, said she’s excited to reconnect with friends and meet new people in the area. “I moved to Belmond in 2020, and I’m still getting to know people. This is a perfect opportunity to connect,” she said. “ I don’t have many activities that call for dress clothes, let alone going all out formal, so finding a reason every once in a while to go big is fun.”
Hodgell has already dusted off a dress and a clutch — all of which she’s excited to reuse.

While Mom Prom is all about fun, its deeper purpose resonated with Conlon.
“Women, especially moms, sometimes forget how important it is to take time for themselves,” Conlon said. “Events like this provide a space for them to unwind, reconnect with friends, and just focus on having fun — all while supporting a great cause.”

The Clarion Parks and Recreation Board’s ongoing efforts to improve local parks will directly benefit from the event’s proceeds. Businesses or individuals interested in contributing can contact the Mom Prom Board via their Facebook page or email at mompromwrightia@gmail.com.

With a “Black and White” theme this year, guests are encouraged to embrace the theme or simply wear what makes them feel fabulous. But no matter what they wear, one thing is for sure, the women of Wright County are in for a night of music, laughter, and meaningful connections.
