Plenty of people and pups enjoy Lap the Lake

This year’s dog walk was the largest turnout ever as approximately seventy-five people and sixty dogs attended the Humane Society of Wright County’s annual “Lap the Lake” event held at Lake Cornelia Saturday, September 19. It was a brisk autumn walk as the humans and dogs started their trek around the lake.

Participants claimed it was perfect weather for an invigorating walk.  Several individuals volunteered to walk the adoptable dogs brought over from the humane society.  After the walk, participants were treated to doughnuts and breakfast pizza donated by Casey’s, as well as bottled water provided by Fareway. The dogs were treated to a variety of doggie snacks.

Following the walk around the lake, ten dog awards (along with prizes for the dogs) were presented as follows:  SMALLEST DOG- Zoe (a Yorkie owned by Charity Bork); LARGEST DOG- Brutus (a Great Dane owned by Ellie Riedel); YOUNGEST DOG- four month old Zoe (a Teddy Bear Cock-a-poo owned by Michelle Grage); OLDEST DOG- fourteen year old Lily (a terrier owned by Belinda Buchanan); FRIENDLIEST DOG- Apollo (a Rottweiler owned by Chris Blum); STRONGEST DOG- Doug (a Great Pyrenees & Anatolian Shepherd mix owned by the Megan Fiscus family); LONGEST HAIRED DOG- Hank (a Golden Retriever owned by Bill Soesbe); DOG WITH BEST HAIR STYLE- a mother/daughter duo of Shelby & Thea in their look-alike outfits (both are a Shitzu-mix and owned by Kim Spencer); DOG MOST RESEMBLING ITS OWNER- Roxy (a mini Golden Doodle whose red fur was a perfect color match to her owner Avery Fiscus’s hair color).; and BEST TRICK PERFORMED BY A DOG- Bane (a Corgie owned by Rachel Sido) who could shake with either paw, sit at command, and stand on its hind feet when commanded “UP.”

At the conclusion of the event, a doggie prize and treat packet was given to every dog. This is the eighth year for this event and is one of the primary fundraisers for the Humane Society of Wright County.  Funds from this event help buy pet food and pay medical care for their adoptable animals.  If you are interested in adopting one of the Humane Society’s animals (dogs and cats), please call Humane Society President Jen Campbell at 515-851-0801 or the Humane Society’s animals’ primary care provider Don Garrett at 515-293-2026.
