Supervisors approve two Board of Health Committee members

The approval of two new Board of Health Committee members, along with Medical Examiner-Investigator was one of the major highlights of a recent meeting held by the Board of Supervisors of Calhoun County, which took place on Sept. 24 at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Rockwell City.

Dave McClain and Kim Kramer will join the health board, while David Kraft was brought in as a new Medical Examiner-Investigator.

Other highlights of the meeting were the discussion for the procedure for the County to close the Dakota Pipeline Project with a closure meeting scheduled for Oct. 15, tax abatement and a repair order for a joint drainage district between Calhoun County and neighboring Webster County.

After coming to order and approving the agenda, the supervisors met with Homer Martz once more. As with his previous visits with the board, Martz provided updates on his well situation with the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Following Martz was County Engineer Zac Andersen, who presented Secondary Road updates and a signing of an agreement for a federal-aid swap for a county bridge. The board then awarded 2019 Liquid Propone Quotes, before approving a bid from Jason Folsom for the county farm for 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Evan Del Val, a civil engineer for ISG Engineering of Des Moines, was on hand to discuss the procedure for Calhoun County to close the Dakota Access Pipeline project.

No final decision was made from the board, with a closing meeting scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 15.

Following Del Val’s visit, Mike Holt met with the supervisors and discussed the Charles and Mildred Petersen Foundation, along with the procedure to abate taxes. The board decided to hold their decision for a later time.

The supervisors then reviewed and allowed claims, approved drainage claims – which are available for review upon request at the County Auditor’s Office – before making their decision to pass the motion to place McClain and Kramer on as members of the Board of Health Committee.

Then, the board approved Kraft as Medical Examiner-Investigator and passed reports and timesheets of county officials.

Before adjourning, the supervisors then approved the change of ownership for a liquor license and appointed Bolton & Menk, an engineering firm with branches in Algona, Jefferson and Spencer, to look at a repair order for a joint drainage district between Calhoun County and Webster County.

The supervisors also met this past Tuesday morning at the Calhoun County Courthouse.
