County over 1,000 COVID cases, board hears

In the weekly COVID-19 update at the Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting, Sandy McGrath noted that the county is now over 1,030 positive cases (as of Monday morning). She added that healthcare workers are very busy and hospitals across the state and region are getting overwhelmed. McGrath said, “I know I sound like a broken record, but people need to mask and stay away from gatherings.”

The board approved a resolution accepting work and adopting the final assessment for the 275th Street RISE project, which was the road construction project to the ReNewTrients fertilizer facility south of Clarion. In the developer agreement, the company agreed to pay a special assessment of $150,000 over 10 years.

Engineer Adam Clemons asked the board to consider final plans for the paving of C20 from the Kanawha blacktop to Hwy 69. $1.35 million has been budgeted towards the project. The board’s approval means that the project can now be sent to bid. Clemons updated the board on the ReNewTrients chemical spill discussed last week. He noted that there was some road damage and additional clean-up that the company will be responsible for.

Shari Plagge updated the board on the county’s Wellness Program that they complete through The Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC). Wright County had over 98% participation in the program this year which will result in the county receiving a 5% discount on their insurance premiums.
