The C-G-D wrestling team traveled to Algona last Thursday to take on the Bulldogs in NCC action, and came home with a 51-21 dual meet win. The meet opened at 160 as Mack Seaba got things started for the Cowboys with a win by fall in 3:49. The home team would take the next two matches for a 9-6 lead in the score, with Camden Hanson (195) stopping their momentum by sticking his man in 5:21. An Algona win by decision at 220 tied the dual score, but Danny Chavez (285) put the Cowboys back in front with a fall in 1:25.
Algona would come right back and tie it again on a pin at 106, followed by Kaeden Langfitt (113) hardly breaking a sweat in putting his man away in just 28 seconds. That ignited a run, as Ethan Traub (120) scored a fall in 2:21 followed by Cale Kirstein (126) doing the same in 4:18. The Bulldogs would win their final match of the night at 132, with the Cowboys then running the table from there. Those match wins included a fall in 4:17 by Reed Abbas (138), A 9-8 decision for Remi Hanson (145) and a fall in 2:27 for Bryce Allen (152).
JV winners were Damien Bjorklund by fall in 1:03 and Reid Huntley by fall in 45 seconds.
On Saturday at a dual tournament hosted by Boone, the Cowboys took an easy 62-9 win over the host Toreadors. Jackson Beisel (132) in 4:46 and R. Hanson in 1:02 won by fall, while Kirstein took an 18-2 technical fall at 5:28 left and Garrett Seaba (170) another 20-5 at 5:08. Abbas won by major decision 15-5 with both C. Hanson and Chavez winning decisions. Five others won by forfeit.
Their other win came against Valley of West Des Moines 36-29, as Traub in 1:37 and R. Hanson in 1:00 scored the pins. Kirstein used four takedowns to win 12-9 and C. Hanson a takedown and a reversal to win 4-2. Abbas and G. Seaba also rendered decisions over their opponents, with two others receiving forfeit wins.
The Cowboys wrestlers lost to Carroll in a close dual 42-27. Winners by fall were Traub (1:45), Abbas (3:53) and C. Hanson (1:14). R. Hanson took a 5-3 decision and Allen an 8-6 win. Three others provided forfeit points for the team. They were defeated 37-33 by Dowling Catholic. Winners by fall were Traub (3:34), Kirstein (5:10), Abbas (1:09), R. Hanson (:38) and Chavez (1:51). G. Seaba took an 8-1 victory.
