500th Baby
Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics is extremely excited to announce the birth of the 500th baby of 2020. Elena Leal was born on December 27th at 5:13 in the morning to parents Jose and Martha Leal. She weighed 6 pounds, 8.8 ounces, was 18.25 inches in length and has dark brown hair and brown eyes. Elena’s parents were overjoyed to have a girl as she joins four brothers, Jeffrey 14; Joseph 13; Micheal 8; and Jose Jr. 1.
“In a year that has been full of firsts, I am so proud that our team has helped in delivering 500 babies,” shared Jennifer Mewes, OB Leader. “When I started here 25 years ago, I could never imagine the growth of our OB department. Our hospital continues to strive for excellence and raising the bar in all aspects of patient care. I look forward to seeing what 2021 has in store for us.”
Iowa Specialty Hospital’s Maternity Center is located at its Clarion Campus. The facility has seen spectacular growth in their OB department over the past 25 years. There were 97 births in 1995 and although the numbers have waivered just a bit year over year, the hospital has seen a consistent uptick in numbers over the last 8 years. In 2019, there were 426 babies born at Iowa Specialty Hospital, which was the most ever delivered at the facility in one year with 2020 showing the most growth ever.
First Baby of 2021
Iowa Specialty Hospital is proud to announce the birth of the first baby of 2021. August James Manwarren, son of Tollin and Miranda Manwarren of Sheffield, was born on January 1, 2021 at 10:49 a.m. August weighed 8 pounds, 0.2 ounces and was 20 ½ inches long.
August joins two siblings at home; Aaron, age 4 and Asia, age 3.
“We at Iowa Specialty Hospital are excited to celebrate the birth of the first baby of the year,” stated Jennifer Mewes, OB Leader. “These small miracles that we are allowed to participate in every day remind us to keep remembering how lucky we are. We look forward to seeing what 2021 brings to us.”
