On Monday, Dec. 21, the HS Chorus sang carols outside the windows at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. “I contacted the activity director at the center, and she was excited that the students were going to perform for the residents,” said David Ackerman, CGD 6-12 Vocal Music Instructor. “Fortunately, we sang at the front entrance under the awning. It was cold and windy that day, but the HS Chorus members were poised to perform, and the weather didn’t damper their spirits. I had told the HS Chorus that we need to find a way to reach the elderly during this pandemic, and singing carols was a way to reach them, even if we have to sing outside,” added Ackerman.
Then on Tuesday, Dec. 22, the HS Chorus sang carols outside the Meadows. “I contacted the activity director at the Meadows, and she was elated that the students were going to sing for the residents,” Ackerman explained. “She stated that the best place to sing was in the middle of the courtyard because that way the residents could look out their windows to see and hear the carols. Again, it was cold and windy that day, but the HS Chorus members were resilient and had a great time. Pauline Turner, a resident at the Meadows, came up to the HS Chorus and started talking with us. Pauline said how much she enjoyed the carols. I let the HS Chorus know that Pauline’s daughter, Mary, had been a member of the HS Chorus and HS Band. All in all, it was a great day for the HS Chorus and the Meadow residents. I am so proud of the students and how they conducted themselves,” stated Ackerman.
