West Hancock defeats Cowboys

The Cowboy basketball team hosted West Hancock last Monday and lost 67-59 to the visiting Eagles. The Eagles led 32-30 at the break, and were able to increase the margin by five more points after three quarters. The team shot 34.3 percent from the field, 64.3 percent from the line and 26.1 percent from beyond the arc. They had 39 total rebounds (19 defensively), 14 total assists, eight total steals and three blocked shots.

Connor State netted 19 points including a nice 5 of 7 at the line. Jaxon Carpenter scored 13 points with a trey included, while Mateo Martinez managed nine points with a three and Coady Olson eight points with two treys. Jacob Moore finished with six points and Aiden Harrington four points. Herrington ripped down 14 boards, while State put yet another double-double in the book with 11 rebounds. Carpenter made six, Martinez and Olson three each and Moore two.

Carpenter dished out seven assists, with Martinez and State making three each and Olson one. Carpenter picked off three steals, followed by Olson and Harrington at two each and Martinez at one. Martinez, Carpenter and State all went vertical for a blocked shot each.

In stats not reported last week, A 77-70 win at Iowa Falls-Alden had State with 28 points and olson and Harrington at 12 each. State grabbed nine rebounds and Harrington eight, while Olson and Carpenter made six assists each. Martinez, Carpenter and Harrington all had two steals each with State making an incredible six blocked shots. In a 75-46 loss versus Humboldt, State netted nine points and Martinez, Carpenter and Moore all at eight each. Harrington managed eight rebounds, with State at seven and Carpenter and Olson at two each. Carpenter made four steals and State three blocked shots.

The stats for the home game with Algona were not yet posted at press time, and the game at Humboldt was cancelled due to COVID concerns.
