Even though they couldn’t grab another sectional team title, the Cowboy wrestling machine will still send seven individuals on to the district meet this Saturday in Humboldt. The 2A meet title at Clear Lake went to Osage with 263.5 points, followed by the Cowboys at 235 points. The rest of the field was: Southeast Valley 165.5; Forest City 148; Clear Lake 129.5 and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 57.
Five Cowboys were crowned champions on the day. Reed Abbas (138) won with two falls including a pin over Gast (Osage) in just 46 seconds. Remi Hanson (145) took his bracket with a fall in 1:35 over Fox (Osage). Bryce Allen (152) took gold with a 12-8 overtime win over Potter (Osage). Garrett Seaba (160) claimed his bracket with a fall in 1:51 over Miller (SEV). Kain Nelson (220) took the top step on the medal stand with a fall in 34 seconds over Muller (Osage).
Two others finished second to also make their way to the next round, and both avoided a wrestleback match. Ethan Traub (120) lost to Currier (CL) by fall, but since he had already bested Tusler (Osage) earlier in the day he moves on. Same for Cale Kirstein (126) who lost 10-1 to Moore (FC) then avoided another match as he had already defeated Adams (Osage).
Five Cowboys won a third-place match on the backside of the bracket, but then either did not get to wrestle for second or lost that wrestleback match. Kaeden Langfitt (113) lost to Oakes (SEV) by tech. fall and Erick Perez (182) lost 11-2 to end their day one match short. In addition, Rigo Bobadilla (106), Camden Hanson (195) and Danny Chavez (285) were all denied another match as they had already lost to that wrestler earlier.
