Cowboys wrestle in 2A regional duals

The Cowboys came oh so close to qualifying for yet another state dual tournament, losing to Winterset 37-36 last Tuesday in a 2A regional. The dual started at 113, and following a Cowboy loss in that match the team reeled off two straight to go up 10-6. Those matches saw Ethan Traub (120) take a 13-2 major decision and Cale Kirstein (126) pinning his man in 5:34. The Huskies answered back with a win at 132, which was countered by Reed Abbas (138) taking forfeit points and Mack Seaba (145) sticking his man in 3:59 to make it 22-12 Cowboys.

Winterset took wins at both 152 and 160 to close to within one in the dual score, with Garrett Seaba (170) scoring a technical fall 19-4 in 5:39 to keep the team ahead by six points. The exciting back and forth action then saw two straight wins by the Huskies to lead 33-27, followed by the Cowboys making their last run as Kain Nelson (220) won by a quick 18-second pin and Danny Chavez (285) carved out a 5-3 decision. With the dual score at 36-33 in favor of the Cowboys, it would take either a four-point or six-point win for the Huskies to take it and they came up with a major decision at 106 to advance to state.

The Cowboys advanced to the championship dual by defeating Greene County (Jefferson) 51-30. Falls were recorded by Remi Hanson (145) in 1:31, Mack Seaba in 1:43, Garrett Seaba in :30, Camden Hanson (195) in 1:04 and Nelson in 13 seconds. Kirstein took a 15-0 technical fall win and Abbas an 18-5 major win.
