Following 2A district action last Saturday in Humboldt the Cowboy wrestling team will be represented by four individual qualifiers at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines this week. Making the trip to the big dance are Reed Abbas (138), Remi Hanson (145), Garrett Seaba (160) and Kain Nelson (220).
Abbas will make his third appearance after taking a 14-5 major decision over Wajda (Spirit Lake Park). His first match resulted in a 12-5 win over Brennan (Emmetsburg). Hanson started with a pin in 1:50 of Harris (Algona), but then lost 6-0 to Fox (Osage). He came back to score a fall in 1:29 over Brennan (Emmetsburg) to move on for the third time.
Seaba makes his third appearance at ‘The Well’ after winning by fall in 1:28 over Shirk (Emmetsburg). He earlier had pinned Gunderson (Spirit Lake Park) in 4:23. Nelson goes for the first time, winning the district title by an injury default. He pinned Goodell (Humboldt ) in 2:52 to get to the finals.
Three others had their season end at districts. Cale Kirstein (126) lost his opener so was forced into wrestlebacks, where he won a match by fall in 2:46 over Boevers (Emmetsburg), then lost the next match by major decision to take third place and end his year with a 25-11 record. Ethan Traub (120) and Bryce Allen (152) each lost both their matches. Traub finishes at 25-11 and Allen 23-9.
A strong Osage team was the district champion at 145 points, with C-G-D second at 83 points and Spirit Lake Park third at 80 points. Emmetsburg was fourth at 65 points and Humboldt fifth at 54 points out of the 11 teams in attendance.
