The Cowgirls traveled down Highway 3 to an indoor meet Thursday, March 11 at Humboldt. The host Wildcats took the team title with 132 points, followed by; Carlisle 111, C-G-D 69, Manson NW Webster 65, Roland-Story 65, Webster City 49, PAC 43, Waterloo West 35 and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 26.
Highlights included four ladies finishing in the top 10 in the 60-meter dash. Matea Conlon won the event in 8.46, followed by Mackenna Hasty in fifth at 9.06, Lexie Lane right behind her in sixth at 9.11 and Brooke Askelsen in 10th at 9.45. Raven Kinnetz and Kendall Lienemann finished 1-2 in the 300, with Raven turning in a 48.82 and Kendall a 49.15. Ezra Heifner was ninth in 53.07 in the same event.
Clarissa Hasty was third in the 400 with a 1:10.81 time, while Lane checked in at 1:14.71 for sixth. Two relays both took second place. The foursome of Lane, M. Hasty, Kinnetz and Conlon toured the track in 1:59.57 in the 4×2, while Lienemann, Conlon, M. Hasty and Kinnetz teamed up to turn in a 4:34.23 in the 4×4. Lienemann, Kennedy Trca, Askelsen and C. Hasty finished fifth in the 4×2 in 2:04.92, while Alaina Friesleben, Natalie Kirstein, C. Hasty and Trca joined together for a 46.85 for fifth in the shuttle hurdle.
Morgan Middleton took fifth in the shot with a 33’ 5” toss in the prelims to reach the finals, then went a bit farther for a 34’ 01” effort for sixth overall. Emma Keller just missed making the finals, taking ninth at 29’ 11”. Ellie Mewes was 20th at 24’ 07”.
Other efforts saw Heifner eighth in 30.63 in the 200, followed by Trca in 31.21 for 10th, Kirstein in 34.76 for 23rd and April Virute in 39.15 for 32nd. Heifner also took ninth in the 300 at 53.07. McKayla Johnson was 11th in 2:15.43 in the 600, followed by Emalyn Nel in 13th at 2:18.84. Trca was seventh in 11.53, Kirstein 11th in 11.97 and Friesleben 26th in 14.52 in the 60-meter hurdles.
The team now prepares to begin the outdoor season on April 6 in Eagle Grove.
