Supervisors honor passing of Economic Development Director

The Monday meeting of the Wright County Board of Supervisors started on a somber note. The board announced the passing of Wright County Economic Development Director Cindy Litwiller. Litwiller died on Saturday after a battle with COVID. She had been in the position with the county since July of 2018 and had helped facilitate some major projects. The supervisors sent condolences to her family. Next week’s board meeting will also be rescheduled for Tuesday to allow attendance at Litwiller’s funeral on Monday.

In other board business, Sandy McGrath updated the board on COVID cases and vaccinations in the county. The county sat at 1,825 cases as of Monday. McGrath said she is seeing an increase of only 2 or 3 cases per week at this point. She reiterated that masking is still required.

For vaccinations, she noted that they have administered over 5,400 doses of vaccine in the county so far. This includes over 1,300 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Clinics around the county continue. People can call Wright County Public Health for more information at 515-532-3461.

In the secondary road update, Engineer Adam Clemons noted that the Highway 69 bridge projects north of Belmond will soon be underway. The project is set to begin on March 29 and by contract, must be completed by November. The county is responsible for a detour.
