Cowboy golfers win their opener

Last Tuesday in Garner, the Cowboy golf team went on the road and took their opening meet 165-182 over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura. Counting scores were provided by Jacob Moore (39), Tyson Berning (39), Elic Fjetland (40) and Cale Kirstein (47). Other varsity rounds were played by Mack Seaba (51) and Jackson Beisel (65).

“I was very pleased with this meet, and especially with Tyson’s first 30 ever,” said coach Pat O’Brien. “Obviously he’s had the potential, but doing it in a meet away from home is terrific. We are looking to push others to that level. We need to get that kind of help from our 4, 5 and 6 spots. The good thing is that there looks to be some big competition for those spots.”

On Thursday at Story City, Gilbert won with a 145 total followed by Roland-Story at 168, the Cowboys at 177 and Iowa Falls-Alden at 186. Moore shot a 38 for the low round, followed in counting cards by Fjetland at 45, Cale Kirstein at 46 and Berning at 48. Other cards were turned in by Colin Kirstein at 52 and Carson Harle at 61.
