CGD Drama Club presenting “Talent Show Fail” Friday and Saturday

The spotlights are lit, the curtain is drawn and the actors are ready! Clarion-Goldfield-Dows’ Drama Club is excited to present their play “Talent Show Fail” this Friday and Saturday.

Director Tessa Yackle explains that “Talent Show Fail” is a one-act comedy. The publisher’s website offers the following synopsis of the play: The town of Holly Springs has terrible roads, and the citizens are counting on the money raised from this year's talent show to fix them. Unfortunately, the one guy who has a talent wants to do taxes onstage this year. As the host, Tina is determined the show must go on, even as duets are being hastily converted to solos, angsty teens are reading upsetting poetry and everyone's being hounded by a heckler. Will the town of Holly Springs get their act together or are they doomed to a future of potholes and unrehearsed roller-skating? Find out in this warm and winning community comedy!

Yackle said the students are very excited about the show. “Last year, we didn’t get to do a play. This year, things are a little smaller but still a lot of fun.” She adds that things were necessarily scaled back because of COVID to allow students to have their own microphones and more space.

The cast is made up of 11 actors, in addition to crew and backstage helpers. Yackle said that  most students are veterans of the stage with just a few new up and coming actors joining the show. Paige Nelson is the show’s co-director and sound engineer. Lilian Fulk designed the show’s posters and t-shirts.

The Drama Club hopes people come out and support the show. “I think the audience will really connect to the story. It has a small community element and is just a lot of fun,” said Yackle.

Curtain time is 7 p.m. for both Friday and Saturday’s shows. Performances will be in the CGD High School gym. Cost of admission is $4 per adult and $3 for students.
