It was a good day last Saturday for the Cowboy wrestlers at the Keith Vry Invitational hosted by Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center. A potent Don Bosco team ran away with the title at 308.5 points, followed by Crestwood (Cresco) at 207.5, C-G-D at 163.5, Charles City at 157 and Dike-New Hartford at 146.
Remi Hanson (138) was the highest individual finisher at third place. He used a major decision 17-4 over Schemmel of Crestwood to reach the finals, but lost by fall to Larson of the Dons in that match. Tyler Stein (113), Reed Abbas (145), Garrett Seaba (152) and Bryce Allen (160) were all third. Stein won by fall in 3:19 over Gonzalez of B-K to reach the third-place match, where he pinned McMahon of the Dons in 2:43. Abbas won by fall over Pisney of Crestwood in just 35 seconds, then won the third-place match 9-3 over Nelson of Perry.
Seaba won by fall in 41 seconds over Skornia of D-NH in the consolation semi’s, then pinned Jackson of Crestwood in 33 seconds in that match. Allen won by fall in 46 seconds over Peterson of Charles City, then won by fall in 1:28 over Roder of AGWSR in the third-place consolation side match.
The red & black compete this Friday and Saturday at the large and prestigious Battle of Waterloo.
