Cowgirls compete well at conference meet

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows tried to make the most of their opportunities at last Thursday’s NCC track & field meet hosted by Humboldt. In the end, some great results emerged to make for a good day overall.

The home Wildcats took the team trophy with 160 points, followed by: Iowa Falls-Alden 120, Algona 116, C-G-D 114, St. Edmond 84, Webster City 78, Hampton-Dumont/CAL 28 and Clear Lake 17.

Highlights included McKenna Hasty getting things started well with a long jump win at just over 15’ 5”. Matea Conlon then took gold in the 100 dash at 12.65, and came back with a second in the 200. She led off a first place 4×4 run as she joined Kendall Lienemann, M. Hasty and Raven Kinnetz on anchor to come home in 4:19.51.

“As a whole I thought we ran well,” stated head coach Monty Harker. “I was hoping our times would be a little faster, but the conditions kind of hampered that. Matea ran well in winning the 100, but kind of tightened up in the 200 and got second. Makenna jumped to a personal best, so she looks good for the qualifier. Morgan got second and third in her throwing events, and Emma threw a personal best in the shot to get us a double placing in that event. The shuttle hurdle ran a very good race and just missed winning that. Kennedy is running very well, and again ran a tight race in the 100 hurdles. Raven ran a very good leg of the 4×4 to help us win that. It still amazes me that with only 14 girls running that we scored that many points. We missed second place by only six points, so if we just had one of two things go our way that would have been great. I am looking forward to seeing how they compete on Thursday.”
