The Cowgirl track & field team will be represented in six events at this week’s state meet following a 2A qualifier last Thursday at Hudson. Dike-New Hartford took the team title with 152 points, followed in the top five of 12 teams by Osage at 111, Iowa Falls-Alden at 80, Aplington-Parkersburg at 77 and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows at 68.
Taking automatic berths at the Blue Oval were Morgan Middleton (1st in shot put, 2nd in discus), Matea Conlon (2nd in 100 dash) and Makenna Hasty (2nd in long jump). Also making it based on state-wide times were Conlon again in the 200 dash and the 4×4 relay of Conlon, Kendall Lienemann, M. Hasty and Raven Kinnetz. Other nice finishes were the shuttle relay and the 4×2 both at fifth place.
Earlier in the week, they finished second to the home team at the Nevada Invitational on Monday. The Cubs garnered 150 points for the team title, with the Cowgirls a distance behind at 118. The rest were: West Marshall 84, Des Moines Christian 82, Boone 81, AC/GC 79, BCLUW 77 and Ogden 42.
Middleton won both her events at this meet, with Conlon tasting victory in the 100 dash. Conlon was later joined by her same three teammates to fly to a 4:23.60 and a 4×4 win. They were joined by Lexie Lane to take second place in two other relays before the night was over.
