Board approves amended budget and talks vaccines

At the meeting of the Wright County Board of Supervisors on Monday, Sandy McGrath provided an update on COVID and vaccinations in the county. The county sat at 1,849 positive cases as of Monday. She reminded people to get tested and hunker down if they are ill. 39.7% of Wright County is vaccinated at this point. The county has given 4,145 two dose vaccination series and 1,547 Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

McGrath confirmed Pfizer’s vaccine has now been approved for those 12 years old and up. The county will be receiving 1,170 doses of that. Public Health has already been receiving calls from parents about obtaining it. The plan is to offer the vaccine in schools before classes end to those 12 and over.

Vaccine clinics at county churches are now over, but times are available at Public Health in the early morning and evening. See Public Health’s website for sign-up information.

An amendment hearing was held for the county budget. Auditor Betty Ellis explained various changes, including a big increase in revenues. This is in large part due to the over $1.2 million the county will be receiving in COVID relief. She also added $500,000 in preemptive expenditures to the budget to potentially use that COVID money for approved projects throughout the next year. Public Health’s budget decreased by over $600,000 due to the restructuring of that department. Secondary roads’ budget decreased by $36,000. They will also be receiving some COVID relief money, in addition to FEMA money. Ellis said she found nothing concerning in the amended budget and that total revenues for the county far exceed expenditures. The board approved the amendments.

In other business, the board planned out drainage district assessments to be spread over 10, 15, or 20 years.  They also received the Wright County Sheriff’s monthly revenue report.
