Wrestling team takes part in Battle of Waterloo

            The Cowboy wrestling team took fourth in their bracket at the Battle of Waterloo last Friday and Saturday. The top three teams from that bracket were Waverly-Shell Rock, Linn-Mar and Osage in that order.

            They defeated Union (LaPorte City) in their bracket opener 54-24. Falls were recorded by Reed Abbas  (152) in 3:27, Bryce Allen (170) in 1:46, Cael Ahrens (182) in 4:21, Camden Hanson (195) in 2:30, Kain Nelson (220) in :58 and Danny Chavez (285) in 1:32. Three others won by forfeit.

            They lost in the semifinal 61-15 to Waverly-Shell Rock. Winners were Cale Kirstein (120) 9-7 in OT, Ethan Traub (126) by fall in 1:55 and Abbas by fall in 3:48. In the third-place match of the bracket, they lost 50-27 to Osage. Winners by fall included Rigo Bobadilla (106) in :53, Abbas in 1:00 and Nelson in :51. Seaba took a 3-0 decision, and Kaeden Langfitt won by forfeit.

            Prior to that, they had pool play in facing Independence and losing 58-18. Winners by fall were Tyler Stein (113) in 1:58, Abbas in :59 and Seaba in :44. Those were the only matches won in that dual. They lost to Crestwood (Cresco) 46-21, with fall winners as Abbas in 1:24, Seaba in 1:42 and C. Hanson in 1:36. Stein won a 9-5 decision. They finished with a 56-21 loss to Davenport Assumption. Falls were won by Stein in :40, Traub in 4:46 and Chavez in :56, with Seaba getting a 7-2 win.

            The overall tournament winner was Lisbon, followed by Don Bosco, West Delaware (Manchester) and Waverly-Shell Rock.
