County plans vaccinations at Fair

In her weekly COVID update at the Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Sandy McGrath noted that there have been 1,854 cases in the county since the pandemic started. She said positive numbers are down, but she is still seeing new cases pop up, including four over the weekend so the illness is still circulating.

At this point, McGrath said that 41.6% of the county has been vaccinated. Pfizer clinics have been held for those 12 – 18 years old at both the Belmond-Klemme and Eagle Grove schools in the last couple of weeks. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows students were made aware that the vaccine is available at the Public Health office as well as local pharmacies and clinics.

McGrath also announced that the county is planning to have a vaccine clinic at the Wright County Fair, which is scheduled from July 7- 12. She noted that this is an attempt to increase vaccinations at a time and place convenient for people.

The board asked McGrath about a fly concern that they had received in the last couple of weeks in the county. She noted that the animal facilities close to where the person complaining resides is following the typical mitigation efforts. She has also consulted the DNR and ISU Extension regarding getting someone to help with a fly study.

In other board business, they approved three fireworks permits for 4 G’s Pyrotechnics for displays to be held in the county in the next several weeks. Adam Clemons, Wright County Engineer, noted that the rock and gravel programs continue throughout the county. He also said in preparation for heavy flood months, his department is reviewing and prepping for FEMA procedures.
