In a Friday home game, coach Ryan Nail came close to getting his first win as the Cowboys played competitively and had a chance at victory before falling 4-2 to visiting St. Edmond. The team got both runs in the third, with Preston Gardner, Mateo Martinez, Porter Chase and Kaleb King all reaching on base hits. Gardner and Martinez both crossed the dish and Chase was credited with an RBI. Chase, Mason Allen and Thane Jackson all took a free ride to first, while Martinez was hit by a pitch to advance. Damien Bjorklund reached on an error. Gardner, Chase and Allen all stole a bag.
Bjorklund took the loss on the hill, allowing only two earned runs with three walks and three K’s over six innings. Cael Chase pitched the other inning, allowing just one earned run to cross.
Prior to that, the red & black lost 7-2 at Iowa Falls-Alden. Both those runs also came in the third inning. Martinez ripped a double and scored a run, Foss doubled and drove in a run and Allen doubled and crossed the dish once. Gardner, P. Chase, Bjorklund and Thane Jackson all had a base hit each. P. Chase scored the only other run and had an RBI.
Gardner, Martinez and Jackson drew a free pass each, Gardner also hit by a pitch to advance. Gardner and Martinez both stole a base. Bjorklund went 5 2/3 innings with seven earned on 10 hits. He walked one batter, hit two batters and had four K’s. P. Chase had one strikeout.
Wednesday night at Clear Lake saw the home Lions dominate in a 14-0 Cowboy loss. Gardner and C. Chase got the only base hits, with P. Chase throwing 2 1/3 innings and allowing 10 earned. He issued two walks, hit a batter and had two strikeouts. Kaleb King came in for 1 2/3, giving up four earned on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.
