JANUARY
* The Cowgirl basketball team came out of the gate for 2019 with wins over Belmond-Klemme and St. Edmond. A trio of ladies reached double digits versus the Broncos, as Raven Kinnetz scores 17, Quinn Hansch 15 and Morgan Middleton 12 points. Vanessa Kolb made 12 rebounds. The win over the Gaels had Hansch hitting four treys and 14 points, with Kinnetz scoring 10 points.
* The Cowboys defeat the Broncos as well to start the month, with Brier Boyd scoring 17 counters and Mateo Martinez 15. Jaace Weidemann made 10 rebounds. Four players finished in double digits scoring, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Gaels. Boyd scored 16 points, Martinez 14 points, Weidemann 12 points and Christian Gaytan 11 points.
* The wrestlers take third out of 18 teams at a tournament in Ames, with Spencer Trenary the lone champion. Remi Hanson was second, with four others at third place.
* The Cowgirls defeat SE Valley as Kinnetz drains the rims for 20 points. They defeat Eagle Grove as three ladies finish in double figures.
* Despite four guys reaching double digit scoring, the Cowboys still couldn’t put away a good Pocahontas Area team in a home loss. Martinez scored 18, Boyd 16, Weidemann 12 and Gaytan 11 points.
* The wrestling team wins a trio of duals over North Polk, Saydel and Gilbert. They followed that a week later by downing both Belmond-Klemme and Eagle Grove with Trenary, Reed Abbas, Garrett Seaba, Sam Wigans and Colby Lienemann all getting two falls each for the night.
* The Cowboy wrestlers were crowned NCC champs for the fourth time in five years, as Carter Dietz, Wigans and Trenary wore gold around their necks at the end of the day. Two milestone individual wins were also celebrated, as Wigans became the 20th member of the 100-win club and Trenary the second member of the 150-win club.
