Dirt Diggers has another successful year

It was another dirty year for Dirt Diggers campers this summer. The camp is typically held every year at Lake Cornelia Park and organized by Raejean Chapman. Campers from Kindergarten through fifth grade got to spend a few days last month tromping through the woods, making mudpies and learning about the great outdoors.

Chapman said that the eighth year of the camp went well, especially after not being able to hold the event last year. “We had great campers and great volunteers. The returning kids were amazed that the forts they built two years ago were still up, and it didn't take long for them to reclaim the Dirt Digger Forest from Mother Nature and build more. This year was also fun because we had two former Dirt Diggers join us as volunteers. Five ‘graduated’ from the program this year which means they can be helpers next year if they want.”

She also added that the success of the camp is contingent upon the many great volunteers who help out. “Many thanks to volunteers, parents, and supporters of the program,” emphasized Chapman. “A huge thanks goes to naturalist Sam Hanson and Wright County Conservation for allowing this program to continue.”
