New playground equipment at Lake Cornelia

If you have recently visited Lake Cornelia Park in Wright County, you may have noticed some new additions. There are new floating docks in the harbor. Several new campsites are being installed in that area as well. And if you travel into the campground a bit, you’ll see a nice new playground area.

The playground equipment was just installed in the last few weeks. Wright County Conservation Director Eric Rector explained that the equipment was partially made possible by an $80,000 federal grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. He added that other projects that will be partially funded by the grant include the new campsites and resurfacing the walking trail.

Rector said that though they’ve known they had those funds available to them, the process to tap into them has been long. Red tape and then COVID slowed down the process, but now the park is moving forward with the grant-funded projects. Rector added that the grant will be able to cover about 50% of the projects with additional funds coming from other sources.

The playground equipment cost around $42,000, noted Rector. It features swings, multiple slides and climbing structures and has fall protection around it. He said it will provide some fun for families further into the park, especially as they have had to take out some older playground equipment in recent years.

So whether or not you’re camping at the park, go check out the new playground. The kids will love it!
