Imagine being able to go into one place and purchase fishing gear and nightcrawlers, handmade jewelry, plants and electronics. That’s what a new store on Clarion’s bustling Central Avenue is now offering. JJ’s Outlet just opened last week at 108 Central Ave E and is offering a variety of interesting products.
The new store is owned by Janelle Basinger and her husband Scott Field, along with Janelle’s son Jesse Basinger. The idea to open a place in town has been rolling around their heads for a while, said Janelle and Jesse.
Janelle had previously owned a variety store in Des Moines before moving back to Clarion four years ago. Jesse, who lived and ran a business formerly in Kansas City, was also interested in opening a location to operate an eBay type of store. The two said that when the building, which formerly housed Edward Jones, became available, they decided to take the plunge and try out their store.
Luckily, they noted the building was in a good state when they took it over at the beginning of August so they could progress quickly. They did a little painting, added shelving and waited for products to arrive. And in no time at all, they were open! Their first day in business was last Tuesday.
Jesse and Janelle say their goal for the store is to offer people a variety of merchandise they might not be able to get elsewhere in Clarion. They have fishing gear and live bait, small plants, different small electronics and even drones. Jesse noted, “90% of what we sell is brand new stuff, never been used.” JJ’s Outlet also carries some unique handmade items. They sell custom lamps, fashioned by Scott himself, made mostly out of old antiques.
Though most of their stock is in a front showroom and hall now, the owners explain that they hope to eventually open the back part of the building for more items. Jesse added, “We would really like input from the public about what they would be interested in us stocking.”
The Basingers said they will be adding and changing out items at JJ’s Outlet on a weekly basis, so they encourage people to stop in and check out the ever-changing options. You can also follow them on Facebook to see new products.
JJ’s Outlet plans to be open Monday-Friday 10 am – 6 pm and Saturday 10 am – 2 pm.
