“Last week’s game was a battle and we knew it was going to be,” stated head coach Caleb Vogel. “Our goal is to come out on fire from the start and even though they scored early on making it 8-0 we were still able to overcome. We came back and made it 8-6 on Preston’s touchdown. From there we made a few adjustments offensively and defensively and shut them out till the fourth quarter. Again, I have to give credit to our offensive line for their effort. Preston and our running backs wouldn’t have had another 200+ yards rushing without them. Defensively we flew around and played fast and that is what we expect week in and week out from our defense.”
This week: Estherville-Lincoln Central (2-1) at Cowboys (3-0)
The Midgets come off a 38-28 upset loss to undefeated Humboldt. This is the 2A, District 2 opener and it’s also Homecoming week. “We have a huge task ahead of us this week,” said Vogel. “Yes they are rated but to us that doesn’t matter. We have been underdogs all year and another week as an underdog will not define who we are as a team. If we want to make a name for ourselves these are the kind of games we want to play in and these are the teams we have to beat. I tell my team each and every day that I cannot guarantee anything. What I can guarantee is that we will be well disciplined on both sides of the ball and on every single play we will ‘Cowboy Up.’ Consistently give maximum effort, be smart, be willing to be coached and find what defines our moment of truth. Our goal is simple, be 1-0 everyday.”
