The Clarion City Council held a brief meeting last Tuesday, October 5. The meeting began with Peggy O’Neill from the Clarion Good Neighbor Association reporting on a successful clean up the previous weekend. She thanked the city and various businesses for helping out, including the CGD football team on Saturday.
In council agenda items, the group approved the second readings of changes to city code pertaining to property maintenance and the rental housing code. Both of these will help new city inspector Lisa Kist begin rental inspections in the near future. She added that she is happy with the language within the ordinances.
The council will have to complete one more reading of the ordinances and then formally adopt them before they are on the books. Kist and City Administrator Clint Middleton added that they are already planning to host a meeting with landlords regarding upcoming inspections to discuss expectations.
In the report section of the meeting, both Mayor Duane Asbe and councilmember Andy Young discussed plans for the next meeting that will include a presentation about the Kosovo sister cityhood proposal. Various officials will be in attendance, including some Kosovar diplomats.
In his report, Director of Public Works Jon DeVries noted that plans and specs for the new water treatment plant were submitted to the DNR last week. He added that the city’s financial advisors have stated that the project is still on course to not raise water rates other than the yearly 5% increase.
