Handled by Humboldt while handling St. Edmond, the CGD Cowboys won another conference matchup with another conference loss as well. The Cowboys fought hard, no matter the score, forcing every opponent and pushing themselves for victory. The Cowboys defeated Gaels 66-15, though the Cowboys felt a piece of that defeat as the match concluded with the injury of JR Erick Perez. “We handled St. Eds, but our 182 pounder Erick Perez was injured which made it quite difficult against Humboldt. He had been wrestling well,” Coach Gabrielson added, explaining how Perez’s injury affected the match that followed against Humboldt.
The Cowboys dominated the St. Edmond, only allowing 15 points scored while smashing 66, and eager to move on to their next match. Seniors such as Chavez and Seaba understand that this is their final year as a Cowboy wrestler. Seaba described his motivations before every match, stating, “When I step into the gym I try to focus on what I can do to win my matches. I can feel that my time on the mat is running out, and I am going to make the most of this year.”
Though the Cowboys lost on to the Wildcats 46-30 Thursday night, Humboldt suffered pins from JR Rigo Bobadilla, SR Garrett Seaba, JR Mack Seaba, JR Nash Lienemann, and SR Daniel Chavez. The Cowboys just couldn’t match Humboldt’s fury, as “We suffered our 2nd conference loss of the year,” added Gabrielson, “which is the same amount of dual losses in the past 8 years.”
Up two wins, down two losses, the CGD Cowboys will be seeking a third win instead of a third loss as they are set to battle at Parkersburg on Saturday, December 11, at 10 AM.
