The Cowgirls are trying to get on a bit of a roll as the schedule concludes and regionals are right around the corner. Last Monday they hosted the highly rated West Hancock Eagles and lost 74-27. Courtney Harle dropped seven points through the rims, with Quinn Hansch at five points with a trey and Morgan Middleton at four points. Raven Kinnetz scored three points, while Jadyn Jondle, Emma Conlon, Lexie Lane and Emma Keller all checked in at tow points each (those were the only stats available).
“This game was a learning experience for us,” stated head coach Adam Vorrie. “The Eagles exposed some of the things we don’t do well, that we are going to fix to make any kind of run in regionals. They also exposed some flaws in some of our base actions. It’s good to see this now when we get will get a week of practice to work on some things.”
They came back on Tuesday with a 50-42 home win over Webster City. Middleton pumped in 16 points on 8 of 13 from the field, while Kinnetz got back on the scoring beam at 15 points with no less than three bombs from long range. Hansch was close at eight points on two treys, with Jondle scoring four points, Conlon three points and both Kendall Lienemann and Harle two points each.
Harle grabbed six rebounds, while Lienemann and Harle dished out four assists each. Kinnetz and Lienemann had a blocked shot each.
“We played over three quarters of great basketball, then let things nearly slip away from us in the fourth,” said Vorrie. “We did a nice job early of getting Morgan the ball inside and that forced their defense to adjust to allow for easier shots for all the rest of us. We will need to learn to finish games as we have allowed some other teams to come back on us over the course of the year.”
They finished at St. Edmond on Friday, taking an easy 58-19 win over the Gaels. Jondle and Middleton scored 14 points each, Middleton grabbed seven rebounds, Harle gave out four assists and Kinnetz made six steals to lead those categories.
The team is 15-5 for the year.
