The CGD Cowboys took part in the epic Battle of Waterloo on Friday, December 17, and Saturday, December 18. The Cowboys worked hard throughout the battle, as they aimed for success through each fight.
ROUND 1: Cowboys 40 – 27 Lake Mills
ROUND 2: Cowboys 22 – 53 Independence
ROUND 3: Cowboys 42 – 32 Pleasant Valley
After beating Lake Mills and Pleasant Valley, the CGD Cowboys placed third in their bracket, along with the achievement of top 12 out of 32, “with many of the best Iowa teams and 3A programs attending,” Coach Dan Gabrielson claimed. The triumph over Pleasant Valley was exhilarating for the Cowboys…well not at first anyways. “The win against Pleasant Valley was the biggest come from behind win I have had in 14 years,” Gabrielson stated, “featuring pins in four straight matches with Mack Seaba, Nash Lienemann, Mason Allen, and Daniel Chavez.” Gabrielson also explains how much of an underdog the Cowboys were, explaining, “we were not favored in the meet or three of those four pins. Hats off to our only seniors Garrett Seaba and Daniel Chavez for each going 6-0.”
The upcoming meets might be some time away, but Gabrielson remains proud and thrilled for what’s next for the CGD Cowboys. “Excited to see how we compete and proud of how we have been fighting!” Gabrielson explains, thrilled for the CGD wrestling team.
The CGD Cowboys will be returning to the mats after a two week break, as they are set to host their next battle on Thursday, January 6, at 6:30 PM.
