The 2021-2022 JV girl’s basketball team finished up their regular season schedule this past week completing the year with a 12-8 season record. The JV team girls Basketball team played at home January 25th losing a close game 41-44 to Clear Lake. We started the game slowly and dug ourselves a hole getting behind 19-3. We battled back with our defense and put up some decent points in this game. I was extremely proud of the way the girls never quit in this game. We just seemed to gain a lot of momentum and confidence in what we were doing as the game went on and that was fun to see. Scoring: Ellie Ennis 13, Emma State 9, Indy Johnson 8, Kennedy Trca 5, Payton DeCoster 4 and Kennedy Jackson 2 points.
Next the JV girls played at Iowa Falls January 28th winning 33-23. Overall the girls shot the ball quite well in this game and played hard for the win. Scoring: Indy Johnson 10, Ellie Ennis 9, Kennedy Jackson, Kennedy Trca, Payton DeCoster all contributing 4 points each and Emma State 2 points. The girls then played at home on February 1st, losing to Algona 26-36 . Even with this loss we were able to close the gap this time around against Algona. Earlier in December, playing them the first time, we were never really in that game. In this game we actually had the lead at halftime but couldn’t get much offense going in the 2nd half. Even with the loss the girls showed improvement from the first time playing this team. Scoring: Ady Askelsen 13, Indy Johnson 4, Ellie Ennis 4, Kennedy Jackson 4, and Paige Brooks 1 point. Next the JV girls played at home against Humboldt February 4th losing 19-37. This was another team that beat us pretty soundly the first time and again we were able to make a much better game out of it. We struggled breaking their full court pressure the first time along with closing out on their 3-point shooters. We were able to improve in both of those areas and that helped us stay in the game better. We just had a difficult time scoring in this game. Scoring: Ellie Ennis 6, Indy Johnson 6, Payton Decoster 5 and Aysa Lyons 2 points. The girls finished up their JV basketball season at Hampton-Dumont February 8th winning 43-36. The team came out ready to play and built a nice halftime lead. We played well in the 1st half and were aggressive early in this game. We backed out of our full court pressure which seemed to kind of take us out of our game rhythm and H-D was able to close the gap somewhat. Overall we got the win and were able to get some girls additional playing time in this final game of the season. Payton DeCoster had an excellent all-around game. Payton just works hard and those efforts are paying off for her in a lot of different ways. Aysa Lyons came in and hit a couple of key outside shots for us. Scoring: Payton DeCoster 12, Aysa Lyons 6, Indy Johnson 5, Ady Askelsen 5, Emma State 4, Kennedy Trca 3, Ellie Ennis 3, Paige Brooks 3 and Sydney Friesleben 2 points. Overall I was happy with the team’s improvement from the beginning of the season to the end. This is a good group of kids with some excellent potential. Their trademark was playing aggressive defense and pushing the ball up the floor. It was fun to see the girls take on that team personality. As a group they want to improve and really work hard on defense in games. Once their offensive skills catch-up with their defense they will see even better results moving forward.
