After a one-year absence, the Cowboy wrestling team will make a return trip to Wells Fargo Arena this Wednesday for the State Duals after defeating two teams in regional action hosted in Clarion last Tuesday.
They opened the night by easily defeating AC/GC 64-16. Only five matches were actually contested, due to a small lineup for the Chargers. Cale Kirstein (126) won by fall in 3:06 and Rafael Jimenez (182) took a 10-0 major decision. There were nine other Cowboys getting their hand raised by forfeit.
It wss just a bit tougher versus Nashua-Plainfield, but in the end the Cowboys prevailed by a 35-30 score. The Huskies took a 20-0 lead after 132, only to see the Cowboys fight back in taking the next four. Reed Abbas (138) scored a big 23-8 technical fall, using no less than 10 takedowns in piling up points. Remi Hanson (145) pinned his man in 1:35, followed by Garrett Seaba (152) winning 7-2 and Bryce Allen (160) taking a 12-7 win. Seaba had two takedowns and a three point near-fall, while Allen did the same and added a three escapes in his match.
After the Huskies won the next two bouts to go up 30-17, the Cowboys took the last three by fall to seal the deal and send them on to Des Moines. Camden Hanson (195) won in 1:55, Kain Nelson (220) in just 10 seconds and Daniel Chavez (285) in 42 seconds.
